The Nationals’ roster received reinforcements Monday after Josh Bell, Josh Harrison and Kyle Schwarber rejoined the team after being on the inactive list.
Each of the players was separated due to COVID-19 protocols, leaving starter Jon Lester the sole member of the capital after COVID’s inconvenience at the start of the campaign.
To make room for the three players, the Nationals sent Dominican infielder Luis García and Cuban outfielder Yadiel Hernández to the alternate location. Both will be part of the rotating group during the tour.
In addition, catcher Jonathan Lucroy was named for the assignment, while righthanded Ryne Harper and TJ McFarland returned to the alternate location.
Lester, who has stayed in shape through home workouts, will likely work at the Nationals’ alternate headquarters in Fredericksburg, Virginia, before rejoining the club.
