It wasn’t the path probably taken for one of the best unlimited free agents, but this was 2020 so all bets were off in this bizarre low season.

When the top UFA goalscorer of the 2020 market had to wait nearly three months for free agency to land with a team, you know it’s crazy.

But let’s be clear. The interest of the market was always there. But at one point, after missing the first wave in October, Mike Hoffman’s camp, led by Officer Rob Hooper, decided to take the patient route and wait closer to the season to find out. Which I think was wise.

Depending on what Hoffman ultimately signs as his true NHL contract with the Blues, his professional tryout (PTO) at St. opening night and likely making the PTO a moot point.

That is, the one-year deal he gets with the Blues (my estimate is about $ 4 to $ 4.25 …
