Bears have asked to speak to George Edwards about DC job

The Chicago Bears have a vacancy with the defensive coordinator, and they are taking the time to research all internal and other candidates to replace Chuck Pagano, who has retired from the off-season.

Following a report that the Bears have requested to interview Jonathan Gannon, Indianapolis Colts defensive backs coach, Chicago is also asking to speak with Dallas Cowboys defensive assistant George Edwards about their defensive coordinator opening, according to ESPN’s Todd Archer.

If the Bears seek experience in the defensive coordinator position, Edwards may be their man. Before serving as Dallas’ senior defensive assistant, Edwards was the defensive coordinator for the Minnesota Vikings from 2014-19. Prior to that, he was also defensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills (2010-11) and Washington Football Team (2003).

Interestingly enough, Edwards interviewed for the Bears coaching vacancy in 2018 before Matt Nagy was hired. So he’s someone who’s been on their radar.

There are reports that the Bears are also considering some internal candidates for the defensive coordinator position, namely defense coach Jay Rodgers and security coach Sean Desai.
