Bars and restaurants in Metro Detroit are preparing for the Super Bowl crowd

DETROIT – The drinks flow and the food is fresh and hot at Downtown Detroit’s Brass Rail Pizza Bar.

The first week of allowing customers to enter restaurants and bars again was a success.

Kevin Weathers, the bar manager at Brass Rail on Adams Avenue, said they are now preparing for the biggest game in the NFL season.

‘We do have a private party. It will fill our bar, we will be under capacity, ”Weathers said. “It’s a beverage company that has rented out our space.”

Weathers said the staff is gearing up for quite a crowd, but admits this year won’t be like previous years and there won’t be many people.

“We follow every rule there is. Our tables are six feet apart, ”Weathers said. “We have decontamination stations everywhere. We are certainly always below 25% capacity. “

And the last drinking conversation will be much earlier.

“We have to get everyone out by 10, and then the game might not be over,” Weathers said. “It’s a hard sell, but it is what it is.”

It’s no secret that many will likely enjoy the defensive champions the Kansas City Chiefs pitted against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at their homes. Dr. Anthony Fauci said even those small and private gatherings are risky.

“Super Bowl is a big deal in the United States. Enjoy the game, watch it on television, but do it with the immediate members of your family, the people in your household, ”said Fauci. “As fun as it is to get together in a big Super Bowl party, now is not the time to do that.”

Meanwhile, Weathers said he is hopeful things will return to some degree of normal soon.

“I think we’ll be open and the events will come back and Detroit will be buzzing,” Weathers concluded. “I have a lot of hope.”
