The National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD), in collaboration with the Navy of the Dominican Republic (ARD), has seized about 615 packages, believed to be cocaine, during two operations on the coast of San Pedro de Macorís and Azua.
In a first operation, authorities intercepted the occupants of a boat some 10 nautical miles south of the coast of San Pedro de Macorís as they attempted to transport a drug to Dominican territory.
After boarding the boat, 13 bags of the packages were seized and two men, both Dominicans, were arrested aboard the 22-foot boat with two outboard motors.
In addition, two GPS, a satellite phone, cell phones, seven fuel cans, two life jackets, sails, two beach coolers with energy drinks, water and groceries were confiscated during the investigation.
In the second intervention, the DNCD and the Navy captured 10 bags containing 300 packs of a substance believed to be cocaine from the crew of a boat attempting to disembark off the coast of Azua province.
During the operation, two Dominican men were seized and a 5.56 caliber Colt rifle, a GPS, four cell phones, a cool box with drinks, water, groceries and two 60 and 75 horsepower outboard motors.
The announcement was made through a statement, in which they also indicated that the investigation was coordinated by the prosecution.
Likewise, they confirmed that the maritime ban has “doubled” on the coast of the country, resulting in the seizure of more than 600 packages of alleged cocaine in the east and south of the country, arresting four Dominicans and occupying multiple pieces of evidence. .
Reports on the operations specified that the ships would have reached the Dominican coasts from South America.
The 615 occupied packages are sent under chain of custody to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (Inacif) to determine the type and weight of the substance.
