Morrison’s comments came hours after the Australian newspaper and Channel 10 reported allegations and footage from an anonymous whistleblower about lewd behavior by male government employees in Parliament House.
They featured the men filming themselves performing solo sex acts, including on the desk of a female Member of Parliament.
A government employee has been removed from office, a government minister said Tuesday.
Morrison described the report as “disgusting” and said he would speak to all government personnel on Tuesday to remind them of their responsibilities.
The issue prompted tens of thousands of people to rally in Australia last week and led to a drop in Morrison’s position in opinion polls.
Morrison has tried to defend his administration’s actions to improve gender equality, but on Tuesday he accepted widespread discontent.
“I recognize that a lot of Australians, especially women, believe I didn’t hear them, and that upsets me very much,” Morrison told reporters in Canberra.
“We have to do better … we have to get this house in order.”
However, he made few concrete proposals to improve workplace culture in parliament and urged changes to be announced in the coming weeks.
