Atlético Paranaense won with the minimal difference to the Ecuadorian Aucas in a game for the first date of Group D of the South American Cup-2021, which was played at the height of Quito on Tuesday.

The Brazilian team claimed victory at the Gonzalo Pozo Ripalda stadium with a goal from Erick Conrado in the 38th minute.

The goal that put the ‘hurricane’ ahead started with a corner kick, which Conrado took with a powerful header, which became the visitor’s score after hitting a stick.

Aucas, hit by COVID-19 infections on campus, performed poorly at the meeting. Even the elevation of Quito, a city more than 2,800 meters above sea level, helped it stop Hurricane Curitiba.

Paranaense showed good ball control from the first minutes. The Brazilians did not give the ball to their opponent and reduced Aucas’ ability to attack.

Aucas and Paranaense, who together with the Venezuelan Metropolitano and the Peruvian Melgar form group D, will meet again in Brazil in May. (D)
