Atlus has big plans for Persona’s 25th anniversary, and we’ll ‘wait a little longer’ for Shin Megami Tensei V

take your time

It’s time to check in to Japanese studios at the end of the year, through Famitsu’s annual interview series. So far we’ve learned vague plans for both Platinum and Square Enix, but the Atlus part of the check-in is fascinating in itself.

Famitsu caught up with three of Atlus’ main developers, who all have different goals. Shinjirou Takata, producer on the Shin Megami Tensei series, is very hard to the ground coming Shin Megami Tensei V.. Their keyword for 2021 is “think outside the box” (this series, ed Person, mostly), and he and his team are “working hard on the development,” although we “have to wait” for it to materialize. Take your time!

As for Katsura Hashino (who deals with just about everything at Atlus, including both of the aforementioned franchises), is going to focus on “ silence ” in 2021 and implies that the impact of the current pandemic on game development has caused him and his team to be more focused. Still he wants to “reveal the title [they’re] as soon as possible, “which is a” fantasy RPG “project.

Kazuhisa Wada (lead designer and occasional director / producer for Person games) is fully focused on Person it seems, and their project is “steadily in the making”. However, Wada gets the last word and knows “exciting plans” for its 25th anniversary Person. Vague! But very promising.
