Atletico Madrid managed to score a crucial 2-0 defeat of Sevilla on Tuesday evening to further solidify their grip on the top of LaLiga Santander.
Kieran Trippier returned to the Atletico XI, and both sides started relatively well.
But it was the hosts who struck first and the Englishman delivered the assist Angel Correa. Trippier cut the ball back for the Argentinian, who turned well before beating Bono at his nearest post.
Luis Suarez was close to doubling that lead before half an hour of play, but Bono did well to deny the number 9.
Aside from a penalty claim from the Andalusians, Atleti remained in relatively comfortable control of the game until half time.
Sevilla started the second half with more urgency in their game, but Los Rojiblancos was typically defensively solid and had Joao Felix and Saul Niguez introduced as they sought to get back on the front foot.
They did just that like Saul doubled their lead within ten minutes of its introduction. Marcos Llorente galloped right forward and found Saul, picking the lower corner from the edge of the area.
With only six goals conceded throughout the season LaLiga SantanderAtleti would probably never throw away a two-goal lead, and it showed when they saw the game go four points clear with two games in hand against Real Madrid.
