Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will receive ‘stronger and longer’ post-launch support than Odyssey

Assassin's Creed Valhalla updates post-launch support

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is a huge hit for Ubisoft. The Viking open world adventure released on both PS5 and PS4 last November. Not long after, the French publisher announced that Valhalla had enjoyed the “biggest launch” in the history of the series. And earlier this week, Ubisoft confirmed it was having its best quarter ever in terms of finances – massive sales fueled by the success of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

With all this in mind, it makes sense for Ubisoft to go all in with Valhalla – and apparently that’s exactly what it will do. During its most recent earnings call, the company reiterated that post-launch support for the game is a priority, stating that Valhalla “will benefit from a stronger and longer post-launch program” than Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.

In summary, Odyssey’s support after launch has been pretty great. It received two solid expansions (split into three episodes each) and a boatload of free content updates that added requested features, new quests, and more. By comparison, Valhalla got off to a pretty slow start – but it’s fair to believe that the ongoing coronavirus pandemic has had an impact on the developer’s plans (as well as the game’s overall buggy).

That said, February should be an important month for Valhalla. The game’s ‘River Raid’ update is due out this month, bringing a whole new activity to the misty shores of medieval England. A laundry list of bug fixes is also in the works, and at this point, we partially expect everything to fall all at once.

Furthermore, the first expansion to the title, ‘Wrath of the Druids’, is still on track to release this spring. We should hear more about that soon.

In any case, if Valhalla manages to surpass Odyssey’s roadmap after launch, fans should be in for a treat. As it stands, the Assassin’s Creed community seems a bit divided over the direction of the game; there was a bit of outrage recently over the title’s dubious microtransaction shop. Let’s hope these incoming updates improve things.
