Assassin’s Creed Valhalla gets new possibilities, but only if you disconnect your console from the internet

A few weeks ago, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla players saw a handful of new skills in the game’s extensive skill tree. Then those skills disappeared.

In connection Valhalla‘s mid December update, that the Yuletide Festival event, each of the game’s three skill trees (Bear, Raven, Wolf) seemed to expand by two nodes. The first in each tree was a copy of the “Let Fate Guide Your Path” node that allows the game to allocate your skill points for you; the second was an actual skill. The Bear Tree received the Fight Ready ability, which gives you a full adrenaline slot at the start of each fight. The Wolf Tree can unlock Arrow Looter, increasing your chances of looting arrows from archers. The Raven tree has Assassin Carry, an ability that allows players to automatically pick up a dead body after a murder. All three of these new lines branch directly from the center of Valhalla‘s skill tree, so you didn’t have to pour dozens of points into each branch to clear a path and unlock them.

The catch is that these three skills don’t always show up Valhalla‘s skill tree.

None of the three skills was mentioned in the patch notes for the December update. Some players saw them appear briefly, before disappearing during subsequent gaming sessions. Today, at least on the Xbox Series X, I still see the “destiny” nodes, ineffective, off the middle of Valhalla‘s skill tree, while the three new skills don’t add upto sing.

I can make them reappear by disconnecting my console from the internet and restarting my game, after which I am greeted with a message that the Yule Festival has ended. Connecting my console to the internet cleans them up again. Some players say they then lost all assigned skill points. Mine, for what it’s worth, was paid back. When I go back online, the skill points paid back are automatically applied to all new skills I unlocked.

Basically, if your console is connected to the Internet, you will not be able to access these capabilities. If the connection is lost, you can.

When asked about the issue, Ubisoft acknowledged that some players have access to these skills, but said they are “not ready for release” and recommended that players play online if possible to avoid “issues with the game. to prevent”.

The truth is, you don’t miss much. None of the abilities change the game immensely (although Assassin Carry is admittedly a nice upgrade of quality of life). But they suggest big things in store Valhallais already a Byzantine web of skills. Why include a “destiny” node for just one skill? Why are these new skills emerging after the apparent end of the Yuletide Festival?

The Yuletide Festival starts on January 7th. Ubisoft has not announced specific release dates for Valhallatwo expansions announced, Wrath of the Druids and The Siege of Paris, nor detailed any new skills that can participate in the game in addition to those campaigns.
