ASK THE CONSUL – COVID-19 Test To Enter USA

Beginning January 26, 2021, the US government will require a negative COVID-19 viral test for travelers over two years old, which must be performed three days before the flight. Failing that, passengers can provide documentation from a licensed healthcare provider about their recovery from COVID-19 in the 90 days prior to travel. This requirement applies to all passengers flying to the United States over two years old, including US citizens and legal permanent residents (LPRs). Currently, all passengers traveling to the United States by air, regardless of whether they have been vaccinated or have their status generated with antibodies, must have the results of a negative COVID-19 test or documentation of their recovery. Make sure you have a viral test (NAAT or antigen) to determine if you have an ongoing COVID-19 infection. Also, be sure to receive your test results before your flight and have documentation of your results to show to the airline. Both the PCR and the antigen test are available in a variety of laboratories and locations. The US Embassy has drawn up a list of service providers who can administer the COVID-19 test in the Dominican Republic, which you can find on our website:do.usembassy.gov/es/us-citizen-services-es/pruebas-de-covid-19-en-la-republica-dominicana/

All travelers to the US should keep an eye on the official website of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and follow their recommendations on quarantine and comply with all state and local requirements and restrictions of their final destination.
