Asian man stabbed in lower Manhattan, suspect at large

An Asian man was stabbed to death in Lower Manhattan on Thursday night, police said.

The 36-year-old victim was stabbed in his torso at approximately 6:20 p.m. near Manhattan’s federal courthouse on Worth Street, authorities said.

The victim was taken to Bellevue hospital and was later admitted in serious condition on Thursday evening.

The male suspect fled on foot.

Hours later, police said they had taken a 23-year-old man into custody for the stabbing. The suspect has had three previous arrests.

Yuh-Line Niou Assembly, whose district covers the area where the stabbing took place, said on Twitter that the attack does not seem to be a hate crime for now.

The legislator said the Asian Hate Crimes Task Force will assist in the investigation.

The task force was created last August in response to an increase in hate crimes against Asians during the COVID-19 pandemic.
