Armed with a knife, a man in China kills seven people

A man armed with a knife killed seven people and injured an equal number in a city in northeastern China on Sunday for reasons as yet unknown, state media said.

The tragedy occurred early on Sunday on the streets of Kaiyuan, Liaoning Province.reported the Xinhua agency.

The attacker killed seven people and injured as many people in what appeared to be a “random attack”, after which he was detained by police outside a bathhouse, according to the same source.

An investigation was opened to determine the circumstances of this drama, the Kaiyuan Public Security Office said in a statement posted on the Weibo social network (equivalent to Twitter in China).

Knife attacks are quite common in China, due to the lack of other weapons to kill in a country where ordinary citizens are not allowed to carry firearms.

Generally, these kinds of murders are committed blindly, without personal ends, by people who see themselves as victims of injustice and seek revenge on society.

In February 2019, a person who suspected his wife of being unfaithful stabbed to death eight people and injured seven others in a town in Gansu province (northwest).

In April 2018, another individual murdered nine high school students leaving high school in Shaanxi Province (North), injuring 12 others. The 28-year-old said he acted in revenge after being victimized by harassment while studying at the same school.
