Arizonans 55 and older are now eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine in Phoenix

TUCSON, Ariz. Arizonans 55 and older are now eligible for the vaccine in some parts of the state.

The Arizona Department of Health Services announced on Monday that the two massive vaccination sites in Phoenix stadiums are starting to schedule appointments for the younger age group. Previously, only people over 65 could schedule an appointment.

The AZDHS says 50,000 new vaccination appointments will be available this week at the State Farm Stadium and Phoenix Municipal Stadium. Registration for these appointments opens on Tuesday at 12 noon.

The state health department also said it will allow local health departments to lower the age of eligibility when 55 percent of the previous age bracket has been vaccinated or when they feel there is no longer a demand for the vaccine. Workers considered “essential” are still offered vaccination appointments through their employers.
