Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray injures his leg late in loss to San Francisco 49ers

TEMPE, Ariz. – Kyler Murray, the star of Arizona Cardinals, sustained a leg injury on Saturday in the closing seconds of the Cardinals’ 20-12 defeat to the San Francisco 49ers.

Murray was injured in a hit by 49ers defensive lineman Alex Barrett after throwing a pass that fell incomplete to wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins on fourth and sixth with 20 seconds left in the game.

Coach Kliff Kingsbury said after the game that Murray had injured his leg and was being examined. Murray did not meet with reporters after the game.

Murray lay on the ground for a moment before limping. He was attended by a team trainer on the sidelines and was seen grimacing in pain.

Murray, 23, finished Saturday’s game with 247 passing yards and an interception, and completed 31 of the 50 tries. He threw a career-high 27 tries in the first half. He also ran 75 meters on eight carriers.

With the loss, hopes for the Arizona playoffs have gotten out of hand. The Cardinals (8-7) need the Chicago Bears to lose to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday or the Bears (7-7) will replace Arizona as the seventh and final seed in the NFC playoffs on their way to the final weekend of the season. The Cardinals are scheduled to visit the Los Angeles Rams in week 17 and the Bears to host the Green Bay Packers.
