Three reasons why you should check out the Offerpad Arizona Bowl
– The Allstate Sugar Bowl – a semifinal of the College Football Playoff between Ohio State and Clemson – and this. Those are the only two bowl games with a conference champion matchup. Ball State is an experienced team with a good balance and a lot of insults. Buffalo was shocked to win the MAC Championship, but dealing with Mountain West Champion San Jose State is a whole different matter.
– It’s the best season in San Jose State football history, going 7-0 on every double digit win. The program has won its last four bowl games, but it took them since 1987. Head coach Brent Brennan has become a popular name on the coaching carousel circuit, QB Nick Starkel was fantastic after his transfer from Arkansas – and before that Texas A&M – and the defense has been steadily great.
– Ball State has never won a bowl game in seven attempts – this is its first attempt since 2013. The Cardinals have problems against well-passing teams, but they master the cover battle with ultra-aggressive style on both sides of the ball.
Overall, this young bowl was not bad. Two of the five games have gone overtime, the inaugural effort was fun – a Nevada 28-23 win over Colorado State – and technically, this is the biggest match to date with the two conference champions.
