Areas of light snow, sleet, sleet tonight

DETROIT – The weekend sunshine will continue until our Monday morning, so grab the blinds when you go out the door.

The clouds will increase this afternoon and by dinnertime we should be completely overcast. Altitudes should only reach the top 30 degrees (3 to 4 degrees Celsius), hitting maybe 40 degrees in our western suburbs, as the east wind at 10 to 15 miles per hour from the cold lakes will maintain the coolest temperatures in the east.

Today’s sunrise is at 7:45 AM and today’s sunset is at 7:40 PM

Monday evening, areas of light snow, sleet and sleet will crisscross the area. Because the aforementioned east wind will flow in drier air from Ontario, that dry air will keep the amount of precipitation light.

However, even a small amount of freezing rain can cause icy pavement, so be especially careful if you’re heading out later on Monday evening, especially on bridges and overpasses. Monday evening the temperature will drop to almost 30 degrees (-1 degrees Celsius) and then rise by sunrise. East wind at 10 to 15 mph.

Any winter mix left in the area on Tuesday morning will turn into areas of light rain as temperatures rise to the mid-1940s (8 degrees Celsius). Wind from east to northeast at a speed of 5 to 10 mph.

Tuesday night mostly cloudy, with lows in the low 30s (0 degrees Celsius).

It looks like the luck of the Irish will be with us on Wednesday as we will have at least partial sunshine on St. Patrick’s Day 2021, and maximum temperatures near 50 degrees (10 degrees Celsius).

Increasing cloud cover Wednesday evening, with lows in the mid 1930s (1 to 2 degrees Celsius).

Rain showers are possible on Thursdays, with maximum temperatures in the upper 40s (9 degrees Celsius), and it will be a windy day too.

The rain will end Thursday night, with lows in the low 30s (0 degrees Celsius).

Fridays mostly sunny and windy, with peaks in the mid 1940s (7 to 8 degrees Celsius).

Friday evening will be clear skies and it will be noticeably colder with lows in the mid 20’s (-4 degrees Celsius).

A large expanse of high-pressure area will dominate the area this weekend, with a ton of sunshine, light winds and peaks near 50 degrees (10 degrees Celsius) on Saturday and in the mid-50s (13 degrees Celsius) on Sunday.

And what a coincidence: the spring equinox, the moment the sun passes directly over the equator on its way to the Northern Hemisphere, takes place at 5:57 AM on Saturday morning! So the first day of spring will really feel like spring this year!
