One of the bigger games coming to the Nintendo Switch next month is Apex Legends by EA and Respawn Entertainment.
This team-based battle royale shooter doesn’t cut corners and brings the “full” experience to Nintendo’s hybrid system. According to Respawn, port specialist Panic Button (Rocket League, DOOM Eternal) worked its magic on this, achieving some “smart” optimizations.
So if it’s the “full” experience, how big will this version of the game be? The official Switch eShop page shows you need to free up some space – with the game listed as required “15.2 GB“of free space. At the same time, the description below mentions that the game” needs a minimum “of 30 GB of download.
Game requires download of minimum 30 GB via a wireless internet connection. You may also need to create or link a Nintendo Account. microSD card required (sold separately). Storage requirements are subject to change, please visit www.help.ea.com/apex-legends for details. “
The Nintendo web page in the US also states that the file size is 30 GB, but the UK page says it is 15.2 GB. Confusing right?
So … it is one or the other. Regardless, it’s a fairly large download for the Switch. If you need more space. Respawn has partnered with Western Digital to create an Apex Legends Switch themed MicroSD card for $ 67.99. It is 128 GB in size and is no different from your standard MicroSD apart from the logo.
If the game lands on the Nintendo Switch, it will support cross-platform play and will begin with Season 8. As Switch players are a bit late this season, there are 30 free levels from Season 8 Battle Pass to claim XP for the first few weeks and in addition to double.
