Refresh for updates …On Monday, a number of prominent Hollywood figures took to social media to mourn the closure of Arclight Cinemas.
“Well this is stupid,” tweeted Knives out and The last Jedi director Rian Johnson. “Everyone who worked at the Arclight loved movies, and you could feel it. Sending love to every messenger, manager and projectionist who rocked that blue shirt and made it such a special place. “
Meanwhile Barry Jenkins – the Oscar winner behind Moonlight, and upcoming Amazon series The underground railwayjust tweeted: “F ** K.”
Writer-Director Gina Prince-Bythewood (The old guard Beyond the Lights)also felt the pain, tweeting, “This is so painful. The Arclight is my go-to. Clean, great sound, assigned stadium seats, great popcorn, usher in movie introductions. A real movie experience. “

Roland Emmerich, the writer-director behind films, including Halfway through and independence Day, thanked ArcLight and Pacific Theaters (which are also closing) for the “many wonderful cinematic experiences” they have provided. “Cinephiles will certainly miss the iconic Cinerama Dome, which is such an integral part of Los Angeles film culture!” he added.
Actor and comedian Jamie Kennedy processed the news by referring to his character Randy from the Scream franchise.WOW!!! This is the first place I’ve ever seen in 2001. The DOME, ”he said. “The experience of watching a movie there was otherworldly, it was absolutely humiliating. If Randy had lived in the real world I think he would have managed the joint! “
The deadline today broke news for the first time that Arclight and Pacific Theaters would not reopen, after being badly hit financially by the Covid-19 pandemic. “This was not the result anyone wanted,” said theater owner Decurion, “but despite a tremendous effort that has exhausted all possible options, the company has no viable way forward.”
We will update this story with further comments as they come in.
🥺 Well this sucks. Everyone who worked at the Arclight loved movies, and you could feel it. Sending love to every messenger, manager and projectionist who rocked that blue shirt and made it such a special place.

WOW!!! This is the first place I’ve ever seen in 2001. The DOME. And the Arclight with the announcements. The experience of going to watch a movie there was otherworldly, it was absolutely humbling. If the Arclight really does go away, I’ll be crushed – it’s such an integral part of my Los Angeles life. I’ve been like this, so looking forward to the day when this is all over and where I could go back to @ArcLightCinemas

This is heartbreaking for the employees and movie buffs. I will always be grateful to you #MyBigFatGreekWedding premiered in ArcLight and starred in Pacific Theaters. Thank you. https://t.co/0m0fp963pZ

The Arclight Hollywood was my favorite theater in the world to see movies. My home theater in LA. I saw my first movie there in LA when I moved here in 2009 and the last movie before the pandemic there. Really a bummer. https://t.co/sziPORAGcA

I’ve always loved having The Arclight staff wear their favorite movie on their nameplate. Once a co-worker who helped me wore The First Wives Club, a movie I’m in, and all I thought was, “Really? My favorite movie is Alfred Hitchcock’s Rebecca.” #just sayin https://t.co/XUrZMKo0nu

That’s my Arclight! Loved being able to walk home with my son from the movie and talk about the next one he wanted to see https://t.co/4KRWD3evWU

I saw a Barbra Streisand do a Q&A after a screening of Yentl at the ArcLight – it was a Tuesday and I bought tickets for it 30 minutes in advance. As?? They were bananas and great. Ugh, I can’t go down this road with this place – there are too many great movie memories.

Arclight was the Hollywood theater that confirmed you were right about moving to LA because you loved movies. I really hope someone saves the dome (again)!

Oh no. Not the Arclight.
Okay, super cartoonish, generically dynastic rich.
Put your money where it counts now, because we can’t lose the Arclight. https://t.co/42ZtydYho2

I like the Arclight. Hollywood, Valley. They were great.
One of the biggest thrills of my life was seeing my little 16mm film in the Cinerama Dome.
I’ve seen so many of my favorite movies there. So many beautiful Q and A’s after the movie.
This is a real blow.
