A new iMac is coming, and this time, rumors suggest Apple is finally ready to enlarge the screen – oAt least r let go a larger version than the 27-inch screen we’re all used to.

Per MacRumors, credible leaker l0vetodream tweeted over the weekend: “The iMac’s screen is really big, bigger than the biggest.” That may seem like nothing in itself, but it’s important to keep in mind that Apple hasn’t redesigned the iMac in nearly a decade. The last time we saw a design revamp was way back in 2012. Sure, the line has seen it improved components Over the years, but beyond, the iMac has stagnated a bit in the design department, especially when compared to Apple’s other products.

In January Bloomberg reported that the new iMac all-in-one would likely draw its design cues from Apple’s Pro Display XDR monitor. In terms of size, that would mean we are looking at a possible 32-inch display. While the 27-inch screen is considered the flagship, Apple is also offering a smaller 21.5-inch version. Per Tom’s Guide, that can also get a bump in size up to 24 inches.

Those are some major upgrades in screen real estate. This is especially true when you consider that the new iMacs are rumored to have thinner bezels. Apple will also reportedly take away the hideous metal chin on the bottom of current iMacs, shaving the curved back into a flat one. The move sounds similar to what Apple did with the iPhone SE and the iPhone 12 MiniBy sliding the home button and bezels, the iPhone Mini was able to bump the screen size to 6.7 inches from the SE’s small 4.7-inch display.

Bloomberg cites anonymous Apple sources as saying that the iMac redesign will be “one of the biggest visual updates to any Apple product this year.” And while a larger, near-borderless display would be a definite change, it wouldn’t be everything which is different from the Pro Display XDR. Apple leaker Jon Prosser hinted in late February that the iMac would come in multiple colors: silver, space gray, green, sky blue and rose gold. That would certainly count as a “major visual update, and would be incredibly reminiscent of the colorful iMacs of yesteryear, while matching neatly with the new iPhone 12 colors. Prosser has a pretty hit and miss track record of rumors about Apple though, so take that with a big grain of salt.

What we do know is that the new iMacs will be the first to feature Apple Silicon, making the 2020 iMac the latter with an Intel chip. Apple began shifting from Intel-powered devices to its proprietary ARM-based SoC last year, so it makes perfect sense that the iMac’s design should be overhauled now. A “major visual update” would help consumers easily discern the upcoming iMacs as part of the Apple Silicon powered era. That’s compounded by the fact that Apple has also cleaned up its iMac inventory in recent weeks. L.last month, Apple quit the iMac ProA few weeks later it deletes two more configurations of the 21.5-inch iMac.

It was rumored that Apple hosted a launch event in March, and that was later revised April(Reportedly, Apple seeded those rumors himself to wipe out leakers.) There’s a slim chance we could hear about the new iMacs back then – though it’s more likely Apple will roll out a new iPad Pro and Air Tags. We’ll probably have to wait a few more months before we know what the new iMacs really look like, but it’s fair to say major changes are on the way.
