Apple Watch enlists immediate help for a man who has fallen through the ice

A New Hampshire man was skating on a frozen river when he fell through the ice, but he was able to get help almost immediately with his Apple Watch.

Firefighters responded to a 911 call minutes after William Rogers fell through the ice on Salmon Falls River in New Hampshire. He skated on the ice, not realizing that the ice was thin enough to fall through.

“I remember saying to myself, ‘Okay, don’t panic. Don’t panic,’ Rogers said. “Find out what your options are here.”

As the seconds passed and hypothermia was about to set in, he remembered wearing his Apple Watch and used it to call the emergency center.

“So I told them I probably had 10 minutes before I couldn’t respond anymore,” he said.

The fire brigade who provided the rescue was able to arrive via the Apple Watch within five minutes of the call.
