Apple shares ‘Fumble’ ad highlighting the iPhone 12’s ceramic shield

Apple today shared a new ad that focuses on the durability of the iPhone 12, specifically highlighting the Ceramic Shield display, which should be sturdier than standard smartphone glass.

In the ad, a woman’s iPhone 12 slips out of her hand and fumbles with it for a few seconds before it flies out of her grasp and lands on the ground unharmed.

“IPhone 12” with ceramic shield. Stronger than any other smartphone glass. Relax, it’s the iPhone, ”reads the caption of the video.

All ‌iPhone 12‌ models feature Ceramic Shield OLED screens, which Apple claims provide four times better drop protection than was available with previous ‌iPhone‌ models.

The Ceramic Shield material, sourced from Corning, is made by pouring nano-ceramic crystals into glass to improve durability. While the Ceramic Shield appears to be more resistant to drops than previous iPhone display technology, it is still prone to scratches.
