Apple is said to be negotiating with Hyundai about the production of Apple Car [Updated]

According to a report by the Korean site Korea Economic Daily, Apple plans to work with Hyundai on the upcoming Apple Car.

The report suggests Apple is negotiating with Hyundai Motor Group to produce an “Apple Car”. Apple reportedly plans to work with Hyundai to produce electric vehicles and develop batteries because of the “massive cost” of the technology and the necessary manufacturing facilities.

Several previous rumors have suggested that Apple will work with a manufacturing partner to produce the ‌Apple Car‌, but so far it is unknown which manufacturer Apple could partner with. Since the report mentions ‘negotiations’, it is possible that no deal has been reached yet, which could change Apple’s plans.

An “Apple Car” report from earlier today Bloomberg said work on the project is still in its early stages and “nowhere near production”, and that there was no mention of Hyundai either. According to Bloomberg, it will take at least five to seven years for an Apple Car to be ready for launch.

Updating: In a statement to CNBC, Hyundai confirmed that it is in talks with Apple. “We understand that Apple is in talks with a large number of global automakers, including Hyundai Motor. As the discussion is still in its early stages, nothing has been decided yet.”
