Apple is DOWN! A number of services such as iCloud and Photos are experiencing a malfunction

Apple is DOWN! Services, including iCloud and Photos, are affected by outages

  • Some Apple services are experiencing outages from Wednesday afternoon
  • Some iCloud services, Photos, and Find My Friend are currently unavailable
  • The outage started around 1:30 p.m. ET, hitting other Apple features
  • It disabled Apple Music, the App Store and iTunes, but these work

Apple is currently experiencing outages or partial outages with some of its services.

The tech giant’s system status dashboard shows outages in Photos, Find My Friend, and eight iCloud services.

However, iCloud Backup is part of this group which means that users cannot back up their devices.

Earlier this afternoon, users experienced a ‘slow or unavailable’ service with Apple Music, the App Store, iMessage, and iTunes – but the bug was fixed within two hours.

The outage started around 1:30 p.m. ET, but has still plagued much of the iCloud services, and Apple has not specified when they will be fixed or what causes them to fail.

Cloud Backup, iCloud Bookmarks and Tabs, iCloud Calendar, iCloud Contacts, iCloud Drive, iCloud Keychain, iCloud Mail, iCloud Notes, and iCloud Storage Upgraders are shown with a red triangle, indicating an outage.

Apple Photos and Find My Friend are also not available.

Many of these services, such as iCloud Notes and iCloud Calendar, are important tools for employees who use them to perform daily tasks.

However, these are just the tip of the iceberg, as Apple said earlier this morning that it had noticed problems in other services around 8:26 a.m.ET, according to SlashGear.

And it was more beneficial features that went down – the App Store, Apple Books, Apple Music, and Apple Music.

And iTunes Store, Mac App Store and Apple Radio were also shown with the red triangle.

Apple’s status page states that these services were released at 8:26 AM ET and the issues were resolved at 10:43 AM ET.

The page does not share details on when the service will be restored.

This is the second accident Apple has experienced in the past week as in January the tech giant released an update to its operating system, iOS 14.4, to fix three security vulnerabilities that “may have been actively exploited” by hackers.

The tech giant released a statement on its Apple Support page revealing that two bugs have been identified in Webkit, the browser engine that powers Safari and one in the core operating system, Kernel.

The kernel error was described as a “race condition” that allows malicious applications to increase privileges, but the update fixes it with “enhanced lockdown”.

Vulnerabilities in WebKit have been addressed with improved limitations, but without the update, hackers could remotely access devices “to trigger arbitrary code execution,” Apple said.

Apple rarely announces problems with its systems that can be used by malicious actors in malicious activity, but the tech giant is open to receiving reports from others finding a privacy vulnerability.
