Perhaps the most buzzing product on the rumor mill is the potential debut of AirTags, Apple’s long-rumored Bluetooth tracking device.
What are AirTags?
The tile-like locator attaches to and helps you find items such as keys, wallets, laptops or even your car. AirTags were reportedly in the works as early as 2019, when images hidden in iOS 13 suggested that small, flat, round drives with chips built in would allow someone to find items when connected to the Find My app. Apple.
The rumors cost: $ 39 each.
AirTags are expected to feature the same U1 ultra-wideband chip as the iPhone 12, which would make location tracking more accurate than competing devices from companies such as Tile, Samsung and Sony, MacRumors said.
Why now?
The arrival of AirTags would allow the company to expand its offering and lock users deeper into its ecosystem as it looks for more ways to combat an expected decline in hardware revenues.
While accessories for an accessory might sound a bit, customers who put off expensive smartphone and tablet upgrades may be willing to spend more on cheaper items. That said, it’s possible that AirTags could become a separate category just like AirPods.
Regardless, it would be a smart time for their launch as customers are finally coming out of more than a year of lockdown – perhaps ready to find things that people invariably lose when they’re out of the house.
