Apple closes Michigan stores amid COVID spike

Apple Inc. announced Friday that the company is temporarily closing its Michigan stores due to an increase in COVID-19 business in the state.

Apple said it still allows customers with existing orders or items to pick up from stores on weekends.

“Due to the current COVID-19 conditions, we are temporarily closing our stores in Michigan. We are taking this step with great caution as we are closely monitoring the situation and we look forward to having our teams and customers back as soon as possible. For help with an Apple product, more ways to shop, or more information about our stores, please visit http://apple.com/retail, ”said an Apple statement.

Michigan reported 8,955 new COVID-19 cases and 40 additional deaths on Friday as the state grapples with an increase in the disease.

The state also reported a new increase in COVID hospital admissions on Friday – 4,183 patients with the disease in Michigan hospitals, 873 of them in intensive care.
