Apple CEO Tim Cook said in an interview with “CBS This Morning” that anyone who played a part in last week’s uprising in the Capitol should be held accountable. Cook has not exempted President Donald Trump from that statement.
“I don’t think anyone is above the law,” Cook told CBS ‘Gayle King in a clip aired Tuesday. ‘I mean, that’s the beauty of our country, we are a country with a rule of law. I think everyone who participated in it should be held accountable. ‘
Cook said the events are not something the country should just strive to move forward, although he ultimately said “we must move forward”.
“I don’t think we should let it go,” Cook said. “I think it’s important to hold people accountable.”
Apple on Saturday removed Parler, an alternative social media app, from the App Store after determining that it was being used to spread calls to violence in the wake of the Capitol riots, in violation of the rules against offensive content.
Cook has maintained a relatively close but balanced relationship with Trump during his tenure. While Cook has criticized key Trump policies such as his decision to end DACA, the Obama-era program that protects some immigrants from deportation, and staged a fundraising campaign for Hillary Clinton in 2016, he has managed to get more support to get than the leaders of many. other Big Tech companies.
The relationship has paid off by allowing Apple to repatriate cash at lower tax rates and exempt its products from tariffs on goods imported into China.
King said the interview with Cook was scheduled to reveal a “big announcement” on Wednesday, when the full interview airs. King said the announcement is not about a new product.
