Apple can now fix the cracked back glass of an iPhone 12 Pro without replacing the entire device

Last month, MacRumors reported that Apple introduced a new same unit repair method for iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 models that showed certain issues that would normally require a replacement of the entire unit. Now we have learned that Apple has extended these same unit repairs to the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max.

Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers have access to a new part of the “iPhone rear system” which is essentially an iPhone case containing all components except the display and rear camera. This part will be available for all four iPhone 12 models starting this week, according to an Apple memo from MacRumors.

For example, if a customer has an iPhone 12 Pro with a cracked rear window, an Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider can replace the entire back part of the device with the iPhone Rear System part, keeping the original screen and back cover. the customer. camera. For this reason, the iPhone screen and rear camera must be free from damage or problems for the device to be eligible for repair from the same unit.

iPhone 12 models may be eligible for repair with the same unit if they won’t turn on or if they experience issues with the circuit board, Face ID system, or case of the device, such as a cracked rear window, Apple said. The new repair method would be available in all countries and regions where iPhone 12 models are sold.

In its memo, Apple reiterated that this move supports the company’s continued commitment to reduce the carbon footprint of every product it sells.
