AOC mocks Wall Street’s outrage over the GameStop surge

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez mocked Wall Street on Wednesday for wanting to crack down on a Reddit message board that helped GameStop’s stock soar.

“I have to admit it’s really something to see Wall Streeters with a long history of treating our economy like a casino complaining about a bulletin board with posters that also treat the market like a casino,” said the Bronx Democrat tweeted.

She added in another tweet, “Anyways, Tax the Rich.”

Ocasio-Cortez alluded to the infamous “WallStreetBets” Reddit forum, which went private late Wednesday briefly after the group’s Discord channel was banned for “hate speech.” The subreddit was made public again shortly after.

“AOC got our back,” read a message in the forum, along with a screenshot from the Ocasio-Cortez Twitter thread.

GameStop and AMC Entertainment received a 134 percent and 301 percent profit in one day with the help of the Reddit message board, which set Wall Street institutional hedge funds into a frenzy.
