SALT LAKE CITY – According to the Utah Department of Health, COVID-19 cases in Utah jumped 549 on Friday, with five additional deaths and 31,411 vaccinations.
According to the health department, there are now an estimated 14,586 active cases of the disease in Utah. The moving seven-day average number of positive cases per day now stands at 543, according to the health department. The positive test rate per day for that period reported with the “people over people” method is now 9.8%. The positive test rate per day over seven days calculated with the “test over test” method is now 4.6%.
There are currently 203 COVID-19 patients hospitalized in Utah, including 85 in intensive care units, state data shows. About 72% of all intensive care beds in Utah are occupied, including 74% of the ICU beds in the state’s 16 referral hospitals. About 55% of non-intensive care hospital beds are occupied, according to the health department.
A total of 816,934 vaccines have been administered in the state, up from 785,523 Thursday. According to data from the health department, a total of 529,871 people have received at least one dose of vaccine, while 291,003 have been fully vaccinated. In total, 990,790 vaccines have now been delivered to Utah.
The new numbers indicate an increase of 0.1% in positive cases since Thursday. Of the 2,236,642 people tested for COVID-19 in Utah so far, 16.7% have positive for the disease or. The total number of tests conducted since the start of the pandemic now stands at 3,884,886, up from 16,934 since Thursday. Of those, 6,601 were tests from people who had not previously been tested for COVID-19, according to the health department.
The five deaths reported Friday include:
- A man from Cache County who was between the ages of 65 and 84 and lived in a long-term care facility
- A Cache County woman who was between the ages of 65 and 84 and lived in a long-term care facility
- A Salt Lake County man aged between 65 and 84 who was hospitalized when he died
- A woman in Utah County who was between the ages of 65 and 84 and lived in a long-term care facility
- A woman from Weber County who was between the ages of 65 and 84 and lived in a long-term care facility
One of the deaths reported Friday occurred before Feb. 12, but was still under investigation by state medical exams, according to the health department.
Friday’s totals give Utah 373,868 total confirmed cases, with 14,841 total hospitalizations and 1,970 total deaths from the disease. A total of 357,312 Utah COVID-19 cases are now considered recovered, health department data shows.
