Four years ago, today, on March 3, 2017, the Nintendo Switch was first released in most regions around the world.
With its monstrous sales records and incredible library of games, it’s not particularly easy to remember how different things were for Nintendo before the Switch arrived. We all know the story of Switch’s predecessor, the Wii U – and how, despite a strong lineup of first-party greats, it ended up disappointing in terms of sales and third-party efforts – but Nintendo’s new console seems the to have completely changed things. for the better.
Switch arrived in style in March 2017, along with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – one of the best launch titles the world has ever seen and, according to critics, indeed one of the greatest games of all time. The system already had its great app on day one, but sales, success, and overall positivity have continued to flow ever since.
With the console reaching “mid-life”, Nintendo is confident that it will outperform the Wii. With an upcoming selection of games, including The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl Monster Hunter Rise Metroid Prime 4 Splatoon 3 and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2, we wouldn’t be surprised if that were the case.
