As we dig deeper into the details of the third Android 12 Developer Preview, we find more notable changes, including the screenshot editor and markup tool.
We don’t see the highly anticipated scrolling screenshot option in Android 12 DP3 yet, but you have more options to edit your images. This is an extension of the changes first added in the Android 12 DP1 build, with now more fonts to choose from, while the animation on the launch of the editor has also been tweaked.
When you tap the “Edit” or “Share” buttons in Android 12 DP3, the animation is much smoother from the preview pane at the bottom left of the markup tool / screenshot editor or share sheet. They’re little tweaks like this one that you might not notice at first, but help improve fluidity in day-to-day use, especially on the Pixel 4 and Pixel 5’s 90Hz displays.

The text tool with the previous Android 12 DP1 and DP3 screenshot editor was initially limited to just one font, but now you have five options to choose from, including cursive handwriting, bold, italic, typewriter and bubbles along with the default Roboto font. It’s not the most comprehensive list, but coupled with the ability to draw, you probably have plenty of options to edit screenshots you want to share.
Something noteworthy is the removal of the “Sticker” tab that contains the entire emoji list. We’re not sure if this is a temporary exclusion from the screenshot editor in Android 12, but it can be an annoying removal if you used it extensively prior to DP3.
