Paris, France.
After are separation What are the plans of the French duo Daft Punk? Solo albums, soundtracks, video games? “Anything is possible” with these musicians who “tend to come up where they are least expected,” said specialists consulted by the AFP.
“No one has ever managed to get in on them: it’s hard to pierce the hulls of the robots” they wore for nearly three decades Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, explains Patrice Bardot, co-author of a book on the French electronic music
“It is very easy to identify their music, with all its references, but in terms of personality it is more complicated”, agrees Yves Bigot, specialist of this Parisian duo who composed hits like Get Happy Y Around the world
In any case, no one is betting on a definitive exit from the music. “They are still alive and continuing their careers,” predicts French composer Jean-Michel Jarre, a protector of electronic music.

A solo album is the step taken by the separation of different groups from the “French Touch” – as the phenomenon of French electronic music is known – as was the case with the members of Air, Nicolas Godin and Jean-Benoît Dunckel , currently involved in several personal projects.
– Behind the camera?
For Bardot, Daft Punk’s future “already matches their past”, as since his last album, “Random Access Memories”, from 2013, “everyone has been by his side”.
Indeed, Bangalter, 46, composed the soundtrack for several films by Argentinian director Gaspar Noé and Homem-Christo, 47, collaborated with Charlotte Gainsbourg and produced for fellow countryman Sébastien Tellier.
“Between soundtracks, music for video games, cartoons … there are so many possibilities”, explains Bigot, for whom “we must not forget that the cinema also interests them behind the camera”.
For example, the video in which they announced their divorce on Monday contains scenes from “Electroma”, a film made by the Parisian duo and premiered in 2006 at the Directors’ Fortnight in Cannes.
But “will a Bangalter or Homem-Christo project cause the same hysteria? I’m not sure, it was their alliance that caused this effect. Just look at the announcement of their divorce: they appear to have passed away,” says Bardot.
“Anything is possible, I even wonder if there won’t be a last album called + Epilogue +,” says Bigot, referring to the title of the video they posted to YouTube on Monday to communicate the end of their career together .
– Their faces “will remain hidden” –
“They will be attracted to projects in which they will have a great deal of independence, because they don’t need money,” explains Bardot. “They tend to show up where they are least expected.”
Bigot emphasizes that with their “aura” of planetary stars, they will be able to work with whomever they choose. Who would say no to them? Spielberg? Coppola? ‘He wonders.
Regardless of their plans, “they will not change the policy”, their faces’ remain hiddenBardot advances.
“Guy-Manuel is shy, he is the one who speaks the least in interviews and Thomas is not going to be David Guetta,” Bigot added.
“And nothing prevents them from connecting again later. There are many examples in music history,” he concludes.
