The first trailer for Moxiedirected by Amy Poehler, harnesses the underground DIY punk sensibilities of the Riot grrrl movement for today’s generation of teens.
Based on the YA novel of the same name by Jennifer Mathieu, Moxie follows Vivian Carter (Hadley Robinson), a shy high school student who is tired of the sexist culture in her small town high school. Inspired by her mother’s rebellious past, she and her friends start an anonymous zine highlighting the toxic behavior of their peers. It’s all handcrafted zines, sharp symbols on hands and sticking to the sexist status quo set to a rocking Bikini Kill soundtrack.
Amy Poehler plays Mrs. Carter, Vivian’s tough mother, with Lauren Tsai (Townhouse: Aloha), Josephine Langford (After), Patrick Schwarzenegger (yes, Arnold Schwarzenegger’s son), Sydney Park (The Walking Dead) and Clark Gregg (yes, Agent Coulson) in other roles.
Moxie hits Netflix on March 3.
