Among us made its console debut earlier this month by coming to the Nintendo Switch, but apparently that’s not the only Nintendo console the game will run on. The right setup allowed someone to run the game on the Nintendo Wii, although admittedly it doesn’t work very well on the platform and is really just proof that the idea works more than anything else. The user who delivered the achievement shared a video of the project for the Among us community to see, along with an explanation of how things were done.
You can watch that video shown below Among us are controlled with a Wii remote on a TV screen. It’s choppy from the start and it’s not how you’d like to play at all Among us, but at least it works to some extent.
I have Among Us working on the Nintendo Wii. from r / AmongUs
In an explanation in the comments of the post, Redditor BurritoSOFTWARE, the user responsible for this project, gave some insights on how it came about.
“My Wii and PC are connected to my router with two ethernet adapters,” said the user. “Then I used WiiVNC and TightVNC Server to stream Among Us from my PC to my Wii. This isn’t practical or anything, more of a POC. It is also very slow even with wired connections. “
The user added in a later edit that they pressed the “2” button on the Wii Remote to bring up the on-screen keyboard.
To simplify the explanation, other users helpfully explained in the comments that the person was in fact using software to stream Among us from the PC to the Wii, which explains why the Wii Remote controls a mouse pointer on the screen. This means that technically the PC is running Among us which is then streamed to the Wii, but given that the console is over ten years old, this is probably as close as we’ll see Among us runs on Wii.
With Among us Already on the Nintendo Switch and apparently on the Wii as well, the next console appearance to look forward to is the date it hits Xbox consoles next year. We don’t have an exact release date for the Xbox version yet, but we know it will be included in Xbox Game Pass as soon as it launches on the Xbox family of consoles.
