AMLO asks not to fool migrants; American policy did not change

Mexico City

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador asked the migrants not to “be fooled” by the new policy of the United States, as restrictions have not changed so far and deportations continue.

In La Mañanera, the general manager indicated that, at the behest of President Joe Biden, the migration situation of citizens and Central American migrants will be regularized, but He recalled that this policy will not take place overnight

“They are very good intentions and I welcome them, but President Biden himself has informed me it will take a while for them to adopt their immigration policy

“So it is not the case that everyone can go to the United States and they will be regularized, there is no concrete definition yet, it is still a policy guideline, the application is lacking,” he said.

The president warned that the same number of deportations continues as in the previous administration under Donald Trump. So he asked the migrants for understanding and patience with the new US administration. At the same time he called out not to be fooled.

Have this information so that they are not fooled by human traffickersthat they paint a rosy world for them, ”he said.

The president sent a message to members of the criminal gangs calling for human trafficking to stop this illegal activity and asked for a change of mindset, as his government offers them opportunities to move forward.

Especially young people, who refrain from giving up on this illicit activity that harms their peers, others, but also their families. (…) Now there are opportunities to move forward, young people have the opportunity to study, have a job, he pointed.

López Obrador took the opportunity to reiterate his initiative to help Central American countries and Southern Mexico by investing in education and support, to tackle the root causes of migration and that no one was forced to leave their place of origin leave. He noted that this area was badly hit by recent flooding in addition to the pandemic from covid-19. “There is a difficult situation, but you have to find a way to have options, alternatives, work and well-being,” he said.
