Few of us make the huge sums of money we think we make, but most teens – unless they’re among the lucky few whose YouTube channels are really popular – are even more likely. All those beautiful, well-paying jobs go to those with college degrees and MBAs. If you’re underage and undereducated and underexperienced, hope for a decent hourly wage and the patience to work your way up.

Tre Brown, a 19-year-old in Gwinnett County, Georgia, just outside of Atlanta, was dissatisfied with his salary at the local Kroger, where he worked at the fuel center, the Atlanta Journal Constitution reports. But he saw an opportunity and grabbed it: While the employee responsible for spotting fraudulent transactions went on vacation for two weeks, Brown created returns for more than 40 nonexistent orders, ranging from $ 75 to over $ 87,000, and put the money on different credit cards. The total amount was more than $ 980,000.

When a theft is so ambitious, people are bound to notice, and most likely sooner than later. Which company Kroger did. The suits contacted Gwinnett police, who took Brown into custody on January 14. Before that, however, Brown had gone shopping and bought new clothes, weapons and two cars, one of which he had just destroyed (a Chevy Camaro). for his arrest.

Brown was released from Gwinnett prison on a bail bond of $ 11,200 the same day he was arrested. Soon after, the AJC reports that “a large sum of money” had been returned, but the store declined to answer the newspaper’s questions.
