Amazon will hire 3,000 company employees in Boston and continue expansion in the US

Amazon.com Inc. plans to add 3,000 employees to its corporate ranks in the Boston area, one of the company’s many technology job expansions in major US cities.

The online retailer said the jobs will be split between support teams from the Alexa smart speaker system to Amazon Web Services, Amazon Robotics and Amazon Pharmacy, a new business unit launched in November. The jobs will include roles in technology and software development.

The Boston recruitment plans complement one of many recent expansions for Amazon, the country’s second-largest employer, with a total US workforce of more than 800,000 people. The company experienced unparalleled growth last year with more than 400,000 employees, bringing the global workforce to more than 1.1 million. The company has added thousands of jobs to corporate offices across America, including in major hubs like New York, San Diego, and Dallas.

The company’s expansion into numerous U.S. cities comes nearly two years after scrupulous plans to establish part of a second headquarters in New York crumbled after backlash from some local, state, and congressional officials and activists on the project. that’s about $ 3 billion in tax breaks.

Amazon said it has rented a 17-story office building in Boston’s Seaport development to house the city’s growing workforce. The company said it will not receive any new financial incentives for the expansion.
