Now that Amazon has largely integrated Whole Foods into its online shopping options, the online shopping giant is looking to cut some of its more surplus supply by discontinuing its Prime Panty delivery service.

Prime Pantry, launched in 2014, was created to help people buy non-perishable groceries or cleaning supplies in bulk with a low flat shipping cost (or free if you were an Amazon Prime member), with the caveat that all items had to fit into a single standard size box.

Later in 2018, Amazon gave customers an option for anyone who wasn’t an Amazon Prime subscriber to pay $ 5 a month to subscribe to Amazon Pantry to avoid those predetermined flat shipping charges.

Following Amazon’s acquisition of Whole Foods in 2017 and the expansion of Prime Now and Amazon Fresh delivery options, it appears that Prime Pantry had become obsolete, and on Wednesday this week, Amazon decided to close Prime Pantry for good.

In a statement to Bloomberg, an Amazon spokesperson said: “As part of our commitment to providing the best customer experience possible, we have decided to transfer the selection from Amazon Pantry to the main Amazon.com store so that customers can get everyday household products faster. , without an additional subscription or purchase requirement. “

Amazon’s spokesperson also stated that previous Prime Pantry subscribers had been notified of Prime Pantry’s upcoming December shutdown and should have received a refund for unused subscription time.

E.While I occasionally enjoyed loading up a Prime Pantry box full of junk food for things like the Super Bowl, given the massive expansion of Amazon’s online shopping empire in recent years, Prime Pantry had probably been removed too late.
