On Wednesday,

This week’s highlight in economic data is Friday’s January job report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Economists’ consensus estimate is for 100,000 new nonfarm payrolls after a drop from 140,000 in December. The unemployment rate is expected to remain stable at 6.7%.
Other data available this week includes the Institute for Supply Management’s Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index for January on Monday and its equivalent in Services on Wednesday. The Census Bureau will also report construction spending data for December on Monday, and the Bureau of Labor Statistics will report non-farm productivity and unit labor costs for the fourth quarter on Thursday.

The Institute for Supply Management publishes its Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index for January. Economists predict a value of 60, roughly even by December. A PMI above 50 indicates expansion in the manufacturing sector.
The Census Bureau reports construction expenditure data for December. The consensus estimate is that construction spending is rising 0.7% month-over-month to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $ 1.47 trillion.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics report non-farm productivity and unit labor costs for the fourth quarter. Economists predict that productivity is down 4.9% year-on-year, after an increase of 4.6% in the third quarter. Unit labor costs are expected to increase by 3.4%, after a decrease of 6.6%.

The BLS releases the January job report. The consensus estimate is that nonfarm payrolls are up 100,000, reversing the decline from 140,000 in December. The unemployment rate is expected to remain unchanged at 6.7%.
The Federal Reserve reports consumer credit data for December. Total outstanding consumer debt is expected to increase by $ 12 billion to a total of $ 4.18 trillion. That would bring outstanding consumer credit to the same level as it started in 2020. The last time debt fell in a year was 2009.
