Alleged sex trafficking victim may be collaborating with FBI in investigation of Matt Gaetz, ex-girlfriend says

Rep. Matt GaetzMatthew (Matt) Gaetz Officer Injured In Raid That Killed Breonna Taylor Gets Book Deal McCarthy Says Gaetz Won’t Be Punished Unless Charged Matt Gaetz Makes Six-Figure Ad-Purchase Targeted at CNN Amid Sex Trafficking Allegations MORE(R-Fla.) ex-girlfriend has expressed fear that a woman allegedly the victim of Florida legislature sex trafficking has recorded a phone call with her, raising the prospect of a second cooperating witness collaborating with prosecutors in their investigation of the matter.

The lawmaker is accused of traveling across state lines for sex with the woman when she was 17 years old, in violation of sex trafficking laws.

Gaetz’s ex-girlfriend expressed concerns with two of her friends, who then passed them on to Politico. She told her associates the alleged victim, and another person picked up a phone call discussing Gaetz, seemingly in an attempt to impeach Florida lawmakers.

The three participants in the call were all traveling to the Bahamas in September 2018 with Gaetz and two other Florida politicians. The trip is being investigated on suspicion that some of the women there are engaged in prostitution.

The report comes days after it was revealed that Joel Greenberg, a former Florida tax collector charged in the Justice Department’s investigation into potential sex crimes to which Gaetz belongs, is working with federal authorities.

Greenberg has told investigators that he and Gaetz encountered several women who received money or gifts in exchange for sex.

Gaetz has denied any wrongdoing amid a slew of allegations, including the sex trafficking claim that he made payments in exchange for sex, used mood-altering illegal drugs and showed lawmakers nude photos of women he had sexually intercourse with.

Gaetz is increasingly being called to resign over the allegations, though he has repeatedly vowed not to resign and Republicans have said they would wait to see if charges are brought before imposing a sentence on him.
