The Barlavento Court of Appeal of Cape Verde has just paved the way for the extradition of the Barranquillero Álex Saab Moran to the United States, which needs it for a mega money laundering operation.

“ This decision is in direct violation of the ECOWAS Tribunal’s December 2020 order to suspend the extradition proceedings against Special Envoy Alex Saab until the hearing scheduled for February 4 in Abuja, ” the statement said.

And he adds: “ The decision of the Court of Appeal is not surprising and only continues a regrettable series of decisions in which the Cape Verde courts have refused to systematically address the arguments of the Special Envoy’s defense, contrary to the Law and the Constitution ”.
Nicolás Maduro tried to grant Saab immunity by appointing him plenipotentiary ambassador.
As of now, they announce that the defense will appeal to the Supreme Court and “fight in the most energetic way possible against the injustice of today’s decision.”

Sources in Cape Verde told EL TIEMPO that the file is now going to the Supreme Court (which already had it in hand) to review the requested adjustments and rule on the merits: “This could happen in the next 15 days.” .

Once this happens and the Supreme Court decision is upheld, Saab will leave for Miami, despite Venezuela attempting to grant him immunity by appointing him as plenipotentiary ambassador to Africa.
