Alcohol poisoning is reduced and road accidents are on the rise in the last 3 Christmas days

During the Christmas and Christmas Eve festivities of the past three years, alcohol poisoning was prevalent in 2018 with a total of 528, while there were 12 deaths in 2019 and more road accidents in 2020 with a cumulative of 107.

In addition, in 2018 and 2019, death rates coincide with a total of 12 deaths per year. At least 19 were registered in this 2020.

Road accidents show an increase this year by a total of 107. However, 95 were reported in 2019 and 103 in 2018.

Statistics 2020

In the first phase of the Christmas operation “Commitment for Life 2020”, a total of 19 deaths were registered during the operation as a result of 107 road accidents.

In addition, the Director of the Operations and Emergency Center (COE), Juan Manuel Méndez, reported that eight more deaths were recorded outside the operation, out of a total of 19 deaths.

While 107 road accidents were recorded in various streets, avenues and highways of the national territory, wherever 159 people were affected. This is the highest number of accidents in the past three years.

Of the 107 accidents registered84 were motorcycles, 21 were light vehicles, four were run over and four heavy vehicles.

Drunk

A total of 245 people intoxicated for alcohol, including six minors between the ages of 14 and 17. This is the second highest number of poisonings from alcoholic beverages in the past three Christmas days.

98 people were also treated for food poisoning.

The provinces that reported the most cases of poisoning are Santo Domingo, Puerto Plata, San Pedro de Macorís, Santiago, San Cristóbal and La Vega.

Statistics 2019

Last year, a total of 12 people were killed as a result of 95 road accidents that happened in the country.

The accidents occurred on 53 streets and avenues and 42 on highways and expressways, involving 74 motorcycles, 14 cars, one heavy vehicle and six run over.

That same year were those treated for alcoholic intoxication at least 214 people including 19 minors.

On Christmas Eve and Christmas 2018, there were 12 deaths. Eleven of the deaths were caused by 103 road accidents and the other death from alcohol poisoning.
