Alarms sounded early Thursday morning in Abu Qrenat near Dimona in southern Israel, the IDF spokesman reported. Residents across the country, including central Israel and Jerusalem, reported hearing “loud explosions” that “shook the houses.”
The explosion was caused by the launch of a Petriot missile from the Modi’in area, west of Ramallah, on an object in the sky pic.twitter.com/4YbL03AejC– Palestine Dialogue Network (@paldf) April 21, 2021
The explosion was the result of a patriot battery reacting to a missile launched on Israel, the IDF later confirmed. The patriot was reportedly launched from near the city of Dimona.

It was initially unclear where the missile was launched from. Several clues indicated that the missile was launched from Iraq, while other reports say it originated from the city of Daraa in southern Syria after an Israeli air strike. Brig. Gen. Hidai Zilberman later told reporters that the explosion was due to the firing of an SA-5 anti-aircraft missile fired at Israel that exploded in the southern Negev. The missile firing came during Israeli air strikes in southern Syria. . The missile was not aimed at a target, Zilberman said.
