Air France Emergency Landing Over Interfering Indian Passenger: Report

Air France emergency landing over 'disruptive' Indian passenger: report

Air France’s flight resumed its journey to New Delhi.

Sofia:

An Air France flight en route from Paris to New Delhi made an emergency landing at Sofia Airport in Bulgaria at approximately 5:00 p.m. (1500 GMT) on Friday due to a disruptive passenger, Bulgarian officials said Saturday.

The passenger, an Indian national, began responding shortly after takeoff, arguing with other passengers, attacking a flight attendant and ramming the cockpit door, said Ivailo Angelov, an official with the National Investigation Agency.

His aggressive behavior prompted the flight commander to seek an emergency landing in Sofia. The man, whose name was not disclosed, was taken off the plane and charged with endangering flight safety. If convicted, he could face up to 10 years in prison.

Air France’s flight resumed its journey to New Delhi.

“We are examining his actions as well as his motives,” Angelov told reporters. “There is no reasonable explanation for his behavior,” said Angelov.
