AEW Dynamite New Year’s Smash Night 1 surpasses WWE NXT New Year’s Evil in viewership

Week 64 (we don’t compete last week due to the Brodie Lee tribute show) of the Wednesday Night War reportedly saw AEW Dynamite beat WWE NXT in viewers and reviews.

Wednesday Smash Night 1 edition of Dynamite reportedly attracted 662,000 viewers (-32% from last week) on TNT, with a rating of 0.25 (-37.5%) in the top 18-49 demographic.

The numbers are lower than last week’s Brodie Lee Celebration of Life edition of Dynamite, which attracted 977,000 viewers with a score of 0.40 in the main audience.

Wednesday’s Evil New Year’s Edition of NXT reportedly attracted 641,000 viewers (+ 9.4%) on the USA Network, with a rating of 0.16 (+ 33.3%) in the top 18-49 demographic.

The numbers are up from last week’s show, which drew 586,000 viewers with a rating of 0.12 in the main 18-49 demo.

The cable news channels certainly affected both AEW and NXT last night because of coverage of the riots and fallout in Washington, DC.

These figures above are courtesy of PWTorch. The full coverage of this week’s shows, via Nielsen and Showbuzz Daily, will be available Friday afternoon, delayed due to New Year holiday backup.

Stay tuned for more.
