LIBERTYVILLE, IL. – Advocate Aurora will resume vaccinations at one of its Illinois hospitals after four responses trigger a warning pause.
Hospital system officials said it paused the administration of vaccinations to its team at the Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, IL., Friday after four people experienced reactions after receiving the shot.
Officials said one person had a serious reaction. The hospital observed the patient at night and has since sent that person home. Otherwise, officials say the three other people’s reactions were “mild.”
Dr. Robert Citronberg is the executive medical director of infectious diseases and prevention at Advocate Aurora Health, and he said he spoke to one of the people who had a mild reaction on Saturday.
“We reached out to that doctor today who feels great and said he is absolutely 100 percent behind continuous vaccination of our population, knowing how important this is to end our pandemic, he does not hesitate once,” said Citronberg.
Aurora’s advocate only stopped the vaccinations at Condell. It has not interrupted vaccinations at any of its Wisconsin locations.
Dr. Citronberg said they had consulted the Centers for Disease Control and state and local health authorities and all approved the system’s plan to continue vaccinations on Sunday.
Citronberg said he is confident there are no problems with the delivery as he said vaccines from the same batch went to other health facilities in Lake County, Illinois, and no one has reported any problems since.
“We will get responses from time to time, there is no question about it, and I think we are prepared enough to address them if they arise,” said Citronberg.
He said attorney Aurora Health administered about 6,000 doses of vaccine to its employees this week and says there are no plans to slow down.
“The vaccine is the only way out of the pandemic right now, and we expect to see occasional safety issues with the vaccine,” said Citronberg. “But on balance, this is a miracle we have this vaccine, the Pfizer vaccine, we have another vaccine next week. to this pandemic in the coming months. “
On Saturday afternoon, a CDC committee recommended the Moderna emergency vaccine.
