What Duty gives, Duty takes away. Yesterday a beautiful new crossbow went live Call of Duty: Warzone and Black Ops Cold War accidentally, and now are players who spent hours unlocking it frustrated that Activision has pulled it out of the game again.
Like Eurogamer reports, players discovered the R1 Shadowhunter crossbow in the War zone shop yesterday, March 18, which was weird because it wasn’t officially mentioned in the latest patch notes. Players who decided to buy it anyway couldn’t use it in War zone but could pull it out and shoot people in with it Black Ops Cold War‘s multiplayer. Others found that it could be unlocked for free by taking on a challenge for that, they had to achieve three one-shot kill medals in 15 games. And they did it for hours, until Activision finally realized it had made a mistake and took it back.
An issue with the R1 Shadowhunter weapon appearing ahead of schedule in War zone and Black Ops Cold War has been resolved, ”the company tweeted from his support account“Refunds are planned for players who purchased the bundle while it was live in the Store, and the bundle and in-game challenge will be returned at a later date.”
Tweet comments were of course disabled, but that didn’t stop players from venting their frustration elsewhere. “Rippa to all the people who buffed themselves for the gun,” one person wrote in a quote tweet. Others were beating air on the game’s subredditIt would be one thing if the crossbow was just temporarily disabled until finished (some players reported that the attachments were a bit buggy), but one community manager for Treyarch confirmed on Twitter that weapon unlock progress will reset for everyone, even if it’s brought back into play. Black Ops Cold War however, is a militarized world of Activision, and it could always decide to unlock the weapon for free if it wanted.
