According to data published Wednesday by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, nearly 34 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine have been administered in the United States.

The CDC reported that a total of 33,878,254 doses have been administered – about 61% of the 55,943,800 divided doses. That’s about 1.1 million more doses administered since yesterday.

The rate of vaccinations has increased steadily over time.

On December 30, the seven-day average was about 255,000 shots per day.

That number rose to 359,000 on January 6; 710,000 on January 13; 892,000 on January 20; 1.16 million on January 27; and now 1.32 million on Feb. 3.

At the current rate, every adult in the US could be fully vaccinated in about a year.

Assuming 75% of American adults need to be fully vaccinated to achieve herd immunity, the US can hit this threshold around Halloween.

Just over 8% of the U.S. population – more than 27 million people – has now received at least one dose of the vaccine and about 6.4 million people have been fully vaccinated, data from the CDC shows.

Note on the data: States have 72 hours to report vaccine data, so data published by the CDC may be delayed – and does not necessarily mean that all doses were given on the reported day.
